Let’s move on to serious business with what I’ve visited in Reunion Island ! Before talking about volcanoes, hikes, whales and… my paragliding experience, let’s start with Kélonia, a turtle sanctuary.

I’m not the biggest fan of caged animals, but it is different here, for 8€, you’re helping a sanctuary that shelters injured turtles (and tortoises) that are too weak to go back yet in their natural habitat. Kélonia is located in Saint-Leu and houses all kind of turtles and tortoises, in very well-though pools which allow us to easily observe them. You can also see a lot of fish from the area, in addition to some explanations on the environmental conservation in Reunion Island. I highly recommend you check this place if you’re in Saint-Leu area, or you can even go there just for that, the 8€ you pay will go toward helping the turtles and you’ll enjoy a beautiful view on the lagoon 🙂
